# COSRX Low pH vs CeraVe Foaming Cleanser

**Question answered:** Should I choose COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser or CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser?

**Short answer:** Choose CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser if your skin is normal to oily and you want ceramides and niacinamide in a gel that foams, with no essential oils on the label. Choose COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser if you want a mildly acidic gel with betaine salicylate and botanical extracts and you're fine with tea tree oil. Avoiding parabens points to COSRX; avoiding essential oils points to CeraVe.

## What this means for you

### Start with what you notice

Both are gel cleansers for everyday washing. The choice comes down to what you want to avoid on the label, and whether your skin leans oily.

### The ingredient names, translated

COSRX states a pH of about 5.3 and adds betaine salicylate, a gentle salicylic acid relative, plus tea tree leaf oil. CeraVe's foaming gel uses ceramides, niacinamide and hyaluronic acid and lists two parabens as preservatives. A low pH doesn't prove one is gentler; it's one formulation choice.

### How to decide

- Normal to oily skin and you want a wash without essential oils? CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser.
- Avoiding parabens and fine with tea tree oil? COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser.
- Sensitive to scented botanicals? CeraVe is the closer label match.

### What to expect

Either should clean without being a treatment. Neither will clear acne alone. Stop if your skin stings or feels tight after washing. We haven't tested either product.

## The label trade-off

[COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser](product:cosrx-low-ph-good-morning-gel-cleanser) is a 150 mL gel that COSRX describes as mildly acidic, with a stated pH of 5.31 plus or minus 1. It lists [betaine salicylate](/ingredients/betaine-salicylate/), [tea tree leaf oil](/ingredients/tea-tree-oil/) and several plant extracts, with cocamidopropyl betaine and sodium lauroyl methyl isethionate as cleansers.

[CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser](product:cerave-foaming-facial-cleanser) is a gel that foams, for normal to oily skin. It lists [niacinamide](/ingredients/niacinamide/), ceramides NP, AP and EOP, and hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, with methylparaben and propylparaben as preservatives. CeraVe claims 12-hour oil control without saying how that was measured.

> **Skin Realist check:** pH talk is fun, but you rinse a cleanser off in under a minute. Pick the label you're comfortable with and move on.

## Label differences worth knowing

If essential oils bother your skin, CeraVe is the better label fit. If parabens are on your avoid list, COSRX is. See our [hydrating cleanser guide](/articles/best-hydrating-facial-cleanser/) and [acne face wash guide](/articles/best-face-wash-for-acne/) for more.
