Side-by-side comparisons

Jack Black Supreme Cream vs Cremo Original

Should I choose Jack Black Supreme Cream or Cremo Original Shave Cream?

Short answer

Choose Jack Black Supreme Cream Triple Cushion Shave Lather if you like a traditional thick lather and may use a brush. Choose Cremo Original Shave Cream if you want a concentrated cream that doesn't foam; an almond-sized amount covers the face. Both list macadamia oil and are scented, so neither suits fragrance avoidance.

What this means for you

Start with what you notice

If you're choosing between a classic lather and the newer slick, non-foaming creams, the difference is how they feel on your face, not which shaves closer.

The ingredient names, translated

Lathering creams whip into foam with your hands or a brush. Concentrated creams like Cremo stay as a thin, slick layer on wet skin and turn slicker with a splash of water. Both are meant to soften hair and help the blade glide. Neither is fragrance free: Jack Black lists rosemary and geranium oils; Cremo lists fragrance.

How to decide

  • Like a brush and a thick lather? Jack Black Supreme Cream.
  • Want to see where you're shaving and use very little product? Cremo Original.
  • React to scent? Neither; look at an unscented shave product instead.

What to expect

Both can give a comfortable shave with a sharp blade and good technique. Neither prevents razor bumps on its own. We haven't tested either product.

Lather vs no lather

Jack Black Supreme Cream Triple Cushion Shave Lather is a rich cream with macadamia, soybean and jojoba oils and glycerin. Spread it on a slightly damp face with your fingertips or a brush and work it into a lather. It comes in 2.6 oz, 6 oz and 9.5 oz sizes. Jack Black says it helps reduce razor burn and nicks.

Cremo Original Shave Cream is a concentrated, non-foaming cream with macadamia seed oil, aloe and allantoin. Splash your face with water for about 30 seconds, then spread an almond-sized amount thinly. It turns slick rather than foamy, and you add water if it gets tacky. It comes in 6 oz.

Scent on the label

Jack Black lists rosemary leaf oil, geranium flower oil, citronellol and pinene. Cremo lists fragrance and describes a subtle citrus scent. If scent bothers your skin, see our shave cream for sensitive skin guide.

Whichever you pick, the AAD’s shaving advice applies: soften hair first, shave with the grain and use a sharp blade.
