Laneige Bouncy & Firm vs Water Sleeping Mask

Should I choose Laneige Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask or Water Sleeping Mask?

Short answer

Choose Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask if your goal is a plumper, firmer feel and you like a cushiony gel-cream; it lists hydrolyzed collagen, peony and acetyl tetrapeptide-2. Choose Water Sleeping Mask if you want a lighter overnight gel focused on hydration, with niacinamide, squalane and several forms of hyaluronic acid. Both list fragrance.

What this means for you

Start with what you notice

Both are overnight masks that seal in your evening routine. Decide whether you want more cushion and a firmer feel, or a lighter layer of hydration.

The ingredient names, translated

A sleeping mask is a leave-on layer at the end of your night routine that helps hold moisture in. Bouncy & Firm uses a richer base with dimethicone, squalane and fatty alcohols, plus collagen, peony extracts and a peptide. Water Sleeping Mask is a lighter gel with trehalose, squalane, niacinamide and several hyaluronic acid forms.

How to decide

  • Want a cushiony texture and a firmer feel in the morning? Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask.
  • Want a lighter gel focused on hydration? Water Sleeping Mask.
  • Avoiding fragrance? Neither; both list fragrance and fragrance allergens.

What to expect

Expect softer, more hydrated-feeling skin in the morning. A cream can't rebuild collagen in your skin or lift sagging. We haven't tested either product.

Firmer feel vs lighter hydration

Laneige Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask lists water, butylene glycol, glycerin, dimethicone and squalane near the top, with hydrolyzed collagen, peony root and flower extracts, acetyl tetrapeptide-2 and several hyaluronic acid forms further down. Laneige describes the texture as a creamy, cushiony gel-cream.

Laneige Water Sleeping Mask is a 70 mL lightweight gel. It lists trehalose, squalane, silicones, niacinamide, sodium hyaluronate, hydroxypropyltrimonium hyaluronate, hyaluronic acid and ceramide NP. Laneige says to apply it after face cream and rinse in the morning.

Skin Realist check: a sleeping mask is basically a moisturizer with a better bedtime story. Buy the texture you’ll enjoy putting on at 11 p.m.

Label differences worth knowing

Bouncy & Firm’s list is longer (52 ingredients vs 43) and has more fragrance allergens named. Laneige reports instrumental measurements in 32 women for Water Sleeping Mask. See our overnight sleeping mask guide.

Common questions

Do I rinse them off?

Laneige says to rinse Water Sleeping Mask off in the morning. For Bouncy & Firm, it says to apply as the last step before bed.

Are either fragrance free?

No. Bouncy & Firm lists fragrance plus linalool, citronellol, geraniol and benzyl salicylate. Water Sleeping Mask lists fragrance, limonene and linalool.

Can collagen in a cream firm skin?

Collagen in a cream acts as a moisturizing ingredient on the surface. The label doesn't show it adds collagen to your skin.
