Side-by-side comparisons

CeraVe Blemish Patches vs COSRX Master Patch

Should I choose CeraVe Blemish Barrier Patches or COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch?

Short answer

Choose CeraVe Blemish Barrier Patches if you want an ultra-thin hydrocolloid patch that also lists ceramides and niacinamide, in two small sizes. Choose COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch if you want a plain, seven-ingredient hydrocolloid patch in three sizes, including a larger one. Neither is a medicated acne treatment; both cover a surfaced spot and absorb fluid.

What this means for you

Start with what you notice

Use a pimple patch on a spot that has come to a head, or one you keep touching. Patches don't do much for deep, painful bumps under the skin.

The ingredient names, translated

Hydrocolloid is a dressing material that absorbs fluid and keeps the area covered. Both patches are hydrocolloid. CeraVe's also lists ceramides and niacinamide in the patch. COSRX's lists only the adhesive, film and hydrocolloid materials.

How to decide

  • Want the thinnest look under makeup, or a patch with skin-care ingredients? CeraVe Blemish Barrier Patches.
  • Want the simplest ingredient list, or a larger patch size? COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch.
  • Deep, painful or recurring breakouts? Talk to a dermatologist; a patch won't treat the cause.

What to expect

A patch can protect a spot from picking and soak up fluid. It won't clear acne or prevent all marks. Stop if the adhesive irritates your skin. We haven't tested either product.

Extras vs simplicity

CeraVe Blemish Barrier Patches are ultra-thin hydrocolloid patches, 22 per pack in 10 mm and 12 mm sizes. Besides the hydrocolloid materials, the list includes mineral oil, ceramides NP, AP and EOP, and niacinamide. CeraVe says to wear them for at least six hours or overnight.

COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch is a 24-patch set in three sizes. Its seven listed ingredients are petroleum resin, cellulose gum, styrene isoprene styrene block copolymer, polyurethane film, polyisobutylene, liquid paraffin and tetrakismethane. COSRX says the hydrocolloid absorbs discharge and keeps the covered area moist.

Skin Realist check: the patch’s biggest skill is stopping you from poking the spot. Any brand that does that is doing its job.

Label differences worth knowing

Ceramides and niacinamide in a patch are a minor extra; the label doesn’t establish that they change results. CeraVe reports consumer-testing figures; COSRX’s page doesn’t. For how to use patches, see our pimple patch guide and how to treat a pimple.

Common questions

Do CeraVe's patches contain salicylic acid?

CeraVe's comparison table mentions 2% salicylic acid, but salicylic acid isn't in the printed ingredient list we recorded, so don't count on them as a medicated patch.

How long should I wear them?

CeraVe says at least six hours or overnight, one use per patch. Apply either patch to clean, dry skin.

Are they fragrance free?

CeraVe says its patches are free of added fragrance and parabens. COSRX sells its patch as fragrance free. Neither recorded list includes fragrance.
