COSRX AHA/BHA Toner vs BHA Power Liquid

Should I choose COSRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner or BHA Blackhead Power Liquid?

Short answer

Choose AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner if dull, uneven texture is your main concern and you want glycolic acid plus betaine salicylate in a light toner step. Choose BHA Blackhead Power Liquid if blackheads and oily, clogged pores are the main issue; it skips the AHA and adds niacinamide. Both are sold as fragrance free, and neither states an acid percentage.

What this means for you

Start with what you notice

Look closely at your skin. Dull, rough patches suggest surface buildup. Dark dots on the nose and chin suggest clogged pores. Each COSRX liquid leans toward one.

The ingredient names, translated

AHAs such as glycolic acid work on the skin's surface to loosen dull, dead cells. BHAs such as salicylic acid, and its relative betaine salicylate, are oil-soluble and can work inside pores. The toner combines both; the Power Liquid uses a BHA with niacinamide, a vitamin B3 ingredient.

How to decide

  • Dull or rough texture, and you want a gentle all-over toner? AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner.
  • Blackheads and oily, congested pores? BHA Blackhead Power Liquid.
  • Already using retinol or vitamin C? Use these on different nights, as COSRX advises for the Power Liquid.

What to expect

Leave-on acids can make texture and blackheads less noticeable over several weeks. AHAs can increase sun sensitivity, so wear sunscreen. We haven't tested either product.

General guidance, not a test of these products: AAD: how to safely exfoliate at home; FDA: alpha hydroxy acids in cosmetics (sun sensitivity). Each product's label source is linked on its product page.

Surface texture vs clogged pores

COSRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner is a 150 mL toner with 11 listed ingredients. It starts with water, willow bark water and apple fruit water, then lists sodium lactate, glycolic acid, betaine salicylate, allantoin and panthenol.

COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid is a 100 mL leave-on liquid with 10 listed ingredients. Willow bark water is the base, followed by butylene glycol, betaine salicylate and niacinamide. COSRX positions it for oil control and clearer-looking pores, and for people used to moderate-strength acids.

Skin Realist check: more acid doesn’t mean faster results. It usually means a red, tight face and a week off.

Label differences worth knowing

Only the toner lists an AHA, which can increase sun sensitivity. COSRX advises introducing the Power Liquid gradually for sensitive skin and not using it at the same time as other acids, retinoids or vitamin C. See our AHA vs BHA guide and how to clear blackheads.

Common questions

Can I use both?

COSRX's routine chart places the toner after cleansing and before exfoliation, but using two acid products together raises the risk of irritation. Most people pick one, or use them on different days.

Which has niacinamide?

BHA Blackhead Power Liquid lists niacinamide fourth. The AHA/BHA toner doesn't list it.

Do they state acid percentages?

No. Neither product file records a percentage for glycolic acid or betaine salicylate.
