Dermalogica BioLumin-C vs Sunday Riley C.E.O.
Should I choose Dermalogica BioLumin-C Vitamin C Serum or Sunday Riley C.E.O. 15% Vitamin C Brightening Serum?
Short answer
Choose Sunday Riley C.E.O. 15% Vitamin C Brightening Serum if you want a stated 15% vitamin C in an oil-soluble form, with squalane, for morning or night. Choose Dermalogica BioLumin-C Vitamin C Serum if you want a lighter, water-based serum that combines two vitamin C derivatives with lactic acid and a peptide; Dermalogica lists it for all skin types. Both list citrus oils, so neither suits fragrance avoidance.
What this means for you
Start with what you notice
Both are prestige vitamin C serums for dullness and uneven tone. The choice is about the form of vitamin C, the texture, and what else is in the bottle.
The ingredient names, translated
Vitamin C comes in several forms. C.E.O. uses tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, an oil-soluble form, at a stated 15%. BioLumin-C uses ascorbyl methylsilanol pectinate and aminopropyl ascorbyl phosphate without a stated percentage, plus lactic acid, an AHA, and palmitoyl tripeptide-5. Different forms and undisclosed amounts make a strength comparison impossible.
How to decide
- Want a stated percentage and a richer, squalane-based feel? Sunday Riley C.E.O.
- Want a lighter serum with a peptide and lactic acid? Dermalogica BioLumin-C.
- Sensitive to acids or citrus oils? Check both labels; each lists some.
What to expect
Vitamin C works gradually and alongside daily sunscreen. Neither replaces SPF or treats melasma on its own. We haven't tested either product.

Form of vitamin C and texture
Dermalogica BioLumin-C Vitamin C Serum leads with water, glycerin, butylene glycol and ethoxydiglycol, then lactic acid, chia seed oil, sodium PCA and palmitoyl tripeptide-5. Its vitamin C comes from two derivatives, with no percentage stated. Dermalogica lists it for all skin types.
Sunday Riley C.E.O. 15% Vitamin C Brightening Serum lists tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate second, at a stated 15%, then squalane, beeswax derivatives, soybean sterols and tocopherol. It’s a 30 mL serum for morning and/or night.
Skin Realist check: comparing vitamin C percentages across different forms is like comparing miles to kilometers without the conversion. The label just doesn’t give you one.
Label differences worth knowing
Both list an AHA and citrus oils. BioLumin-C comes in several sizes; C.E.O. is listed at 30 mL. For more vitamin C options, see our vitamin C serum guide and our CeraVe vs COSRX vitamin C comparison.
