What it is
Baxter of California Shave Tonic is a spray used before and after shaving, ideally with a towel, in the style of a barbershop hot-towel shave.

How to use
Before shaving, soak a towel in hot water, wring it out, spray it with tonic and hold it on your face for 30 seconds. After shaving, repeat with a cold towel, or spray directly onto your face. Avoid the eyes and don’t rinse.
Who should be careful
Denatured alcohol is the second ingredient, and the tonic contains several essential oils, menthol (Sensitivity consideration) and limonene (Scent ingredient), plus colorants. That combination can sting freshly shaved or sensitive skin.
What the brand claims
Baxter says it calms and refreshes skin and notes GQ Grooming Awards in 2016 and 2019. It is paraben free, according to the brand.
